Building modified f-hole, semi-hollow body, for fingerpick blues. Fender makes single coil 'blues' pickups.
What about quality and sound for these pic-ups. Suggestions?
Thanks guys.

I 2nd the Fralins. Lindy is a genius. Jason Lollar is also amazing. Have not tried his tele pickups yet.

Fralin's here too.

In fact, Fralin's are about all I use in my electrics. But I am interested in trying Jason's

weight telles. Hope that helps, I just orded my first pair yesterday so I
cannot review them. They are hand made in Hawaii (sp?). Good reviews

Bob, I had great success using a pickup recommended by a customer. Adder Plus dual coil humbuckers. (Persuader series, if I remember...)
Put 'em in a solid body tele, but I don't see why they wouldn't work in your situation.
adderplus.com is their address.

A quick question about Fralins...

I have a Tele with a Fralin in the bridge position, and it squeals even at
moderate volume...
Straight feedback squealing...

Is this a defective PU, or something that can remedied somehow??

Thanks in advance...

Bob,

I like these for my Teles

- Fender Original Vintage

- Lindy Fralin

- Kinman AVn

I tend to not like overwound pickups as they tend to loose the "twang" of Tele and Strat.

Spruce - It sounds like yours wasn't wax-potted correctly. I bet it you speak to the pickup, it picks up your voice like it is a microphone?

How close is the pick up to the strings?

Spruce-

Try a thin coat of wax (sans silicone) on the bottom of your bridge. I know it sounds weird but I think this is a tip from Dan Erlewine. I've heard Tele bridge pickups are supposed to be mildly microphonic to sound like a tele bridge pickup. I don't have a lot of experience with Teles though.

The wax on the bottom of the bridge is supposed to dampen the vibration and give less squeal without changing the sound of the pickup (that might occur if the pickup were potted). I wonder if taping the coil again with electrical tape might help too - hopefully it wouldn't hurt the coil. I'm hoping some of the repair guys chime in on this.

Good luck-

Bob-

I have little experience with teles but I really like Jason Lollar's pickups. I have only heard his P-90s but they are awesome.

Should do the trick for me...thanks!

That's the article I remembered. I guess I thought it was Dan Erlewine because it's from Stewmac. Thanks for posting the web address - I read it again, great stuff.

How important is it to match the bridge and neck PUs in a Tele....?

By brand? Not very. By something called, "phase," it's very important.
The VanZandt and Fralin are both darker pickups for less of the classic
chicken-tele sound and their phase works together. Look up Acme Guitar
Works in Google and give them a call. They have a good assortment of
GOOD pickups and really know them. My original VanZandt neck P/U
actually broke, and they told me what to get that would be more durable
(the VanZandt neck P/U's don't come with the coil wrapped, so it broke),
get the same sound, and work with the phase of the VanZandt bridge.
